Review: The Electric Oath

Welcome fellow readers and tea drinkers! Today I am reviewing The Electric Oath by Aaron Cole Williams. I finished this book up yesterday morning while drink a lovely cup of Earl Gray Tea from Murphy’s Department Store.

eARC provided by NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

The Electric Oath (Sons of Prosperity, #1)

The Electric Oath, follows a host of characters as political upheaval is happening in a Post apocalyptic America. Where technology is limited and monitored by a ruling document called the Compact. We follow the storyline through the Royal family, yes apparently post apocalyptic America went back to a monarch with a Board of Directors! How American does that sound. This novel is a mix of Sci-Fi and Fantasy elements. I definitely thought it was a Sci-Fi novel in the beginning with some Fantasy elements thrown in, think similar to Gideon the Ninth style Sci-Fi.

I enjoyed this book, I was confused at the beginning, but I expect that in Sci-Fi’s while I get used to the world and the story. I enjoyed following Drake who was an ambassador of sorts for the Royal family. He had to come to terms with choosing between assisting the rebels or staying loyal to the King that essentially raised him. He ended up mostly having his choice taken from him by the other characters, so I am interested to see where his storyline goes in the second book.

My biggest complaint for this book was it needed a close look by an editor to catch some consistency issues, but seeing as it was an eARC I am sure the issues were mostly taken care of for the final version.

If you are looking for a book similar to Gideon the Ninth, but leans more towards Fantasy than Sci-Fi I would recommend you pick this one up. It is available on Kindle Unlimited, or you can buy a paperback from Amazon or Barnes and Noble.

Happy Halloween fellow tea drinks, may it be spooky, filled with candy, but stay safe!
