Review: A Shadow in the Ember

Hi! I found a new tea finally 🙂 It’s a Sweet Green Pomegranate Tea from Indulge Lititiz and it is amazing, and possible a new favorite. Today we are going to be reviewing A Shadow in the Ember by Jennifer L. Armentrout, and guys this is what I was hoping the From Blood and Ash books would be.

First up the players, Nyktos god of death, general hunk of a man that is a sweet cinnamon roll. Then you have Sera, a promise who was raised to marry the god of death in order to fulfill a bargain made by one of her ancestors to get read of the blight. But really she has been raised to kill the god of death so that the blight will be gone permanently.

Neither of these two are good at communicating. Nyktos flat out refuses to marry Sera, for some unknown reason. Sera is then presented on a throne to the god of death every birthday and he never shows after the first time. He didn’t want a consort but he wasn’t given a choice in the matter. There are political machinations going on, a Mother and Step-Brother who are downright evil to Sera and view her as nothing more than the reason that the blight is back. Even though the blight being back should have nothing to do with Sera being born. But low and behold it does.

This book has a great plot and an intriguing story, it provides some of the background information that you want to know while reading the FBAA series, all though not all of it. But I am sure as the series continues we will get more and more of that background information. I will say that Nyktos is a mix of Kieran and Hawk from the FBAA series, but it works and Nyktos is my favorite kind of love interest.

We see some familiar names in both people and groups, which leads me to wander things about the FBAA series that might be about to be revealed in Book 4. But overall this is an excellent read in my opinion, it far surpasses FBAA and I am sad that I haven’t seen as much hype around it as I have the original series.

Also Nyktos has now sparked a search for the best God of Death, which is running parallel to my search for the best Hades. So if you have an Fantasy Romance/Romance books with either Gods of Death of Hades please send them my way!

Till Next Time Book Dragons,
Kaitlyn
