Hi all, I am on a quest to find the best Hades and Hades/Persephone retelling. So far Neon Gods is my favorite Hades, all though Alessa’s is giving him a good run for his money.

Hades is book 3 in the Gods of the Underworld series by Alessa Thorn. I picked up Asterion, book 1, on a whim and I was shocked at how good it was. It’s a retelling of the Minotaur myth and he runs a bar after Hades rescues him from the Labyrinth. Medusa is book 2, and it follows Medusa who is the tech savy member of the court and runs one of Hades’ companies. Let me tell you Medusa deserves a happy ending, after all of the crappy things that happen to her in the myth. And Alessa delivered on that.
That leaves us at Hades, the returned God of the Underworld, and basically the ruler of the city Styx. Now in this world the gods had vanished and only upon the collapse of the nation Greece did they return. But not all of them Hades and his court returned along with Demeter who rules Athens essentially.
The big bad in this series so far is Pithos who essentially wants to destroy all of the gods, we do find out who the leader is at the end of Hades’ book and I didn’t see it coming! It was great, and I can’t wait to see where Alessa takes it in the next 4 books. On to the review! Now that you have a general overview of the series.
Pros – Hades is a silver fox, and Persephone while younger is not ridiculously younger (early 30s). I love Alessa’s writing, it draws you in and makes you want to stay in the story. The Triplets, I am so ready for their books. Persephone is powerful and Hades knows it and loves it!
Cons – Hades was so wishy washy after pinning for 6 years. Lots of miscommunication.
This is a fast-paced read, I picked it up after dinner and had it finished before I went to bed. Hades and Persephone are both intriguing characters, plus you get the bonus of having all of the characters that you have slowly fallen in love with over the first two books pop back up in this book. A great cast of characters, over all. Hades is a business exec, and while we still don’t get to see how he spends most of his day we do get a glimpse at his powers several times in this book as he is teaching Persephone how to use hers.
TW for abusive parent, captivity, forced diet
Persephone is a demigoddess with the duel power of Life and Death, Demeter her mother, has hidden her away most of her life by saying that Hades will take her captive because of her Death powers and that they should only belong to him. But little cinnamon roll Hades, just is captivated by the fact that there is a woman that isn’t scared of his powers, because she has them too! Needless to say when they finally sort themselves out its a great smutty time.
Smut Level: 3 out of 5, you see some on page smut but not anything excessively detailed*.
Overall I would recommend this series to people who love greek mythology and either also love Fantasy Romance or want to try out the genre, this is a great intro series in my opinion.
Till Next Time Book Dragons,
